concrete driveway and patio slab designs

Concrete is a material consisting of cement, sand and water with the addition of a type of aggregate, such as age or gravel. Concrete is one of the most important building materials in the modern era, especially with its reinforcement with iron to become reinforced concrete.

The Romans are considered the first to use plain concrete in history about two thousand years ago and it was used in most of their buildings because of its ease of shaping and the possibility of implementing it with simple trained workers.

Types of concrete

There are many types of concrete nowadays due to their components, including, for example:

Concrete mortar: Made up of mixing gravel with sand and cement mortar.

Concrete: It may be called concrete and is a mixture of gravel (natural or crushed hard stone) with clean sand free of impurities and very fine powder with cement in technically recognized proportions.

Ordinary concrete: It may be called clean concrete and is not used in casting any structures that have loads and is usually poured to fill the gaps and to stabilize the soil under or around structures reinforced with iron.

Reinforced concrete: It is concrete called reinforced because it is poured with iron bars that have special shapes determined by specialized engineers in design to make the body cast from this concrete with iron stronger and able to bear large weights such as (bridges, roofs, tall buildings …).

White concrete: It is composed of mixing white cement with sand and gravel mortar.

Brick-crushed concrete: It is composed of mixing brick-crushed with sand and cement mortar.

There are also other types of reinforced concrete that have special properties and uses such as:

Adding colored material to concrete COLOURED CONCRETE ADMIXTURES: Some architectural works require the concrete to have a colored surface, so it is necessary to add colored materials to the mixture from which a thin layer is poured on the surface of the concrete. These additives are metal oxides and other similar materials, and they are required to be chemically inert and not change their colors when exposed to sunlight. The colored material is added to the mixture that requires the concrete to have a colored surface, especially for ordinary concrete, such as manganese dioxide and chromium hydroxide.
